Article Details| Elder Law is There to Protect You |

I don't think most people realize how valuable legal council is. For most of our lives we plod on without it, not realizing that some of our rights and privileges are at risk, and if we had regular legal council, I doubt very many people would be taken advantage of by employers, insurance agencies, hospitals, and society in general. That is especially true of the elderly, and elder law covers a lot of ground. There are times when Medicaid and other programs for the elderly fail to meet their obligations, and at times like that, having an experienced lawyer calling the shots for you can be far better and far faster at obtaining a favorable resolution. Estate planning is also a very important aspect of elder law. Any aspect of your life not covered in your will can become probate or otherwise tampered with by the government, and so having everything considered and processed appropriately prior to death will save a lot of headache and heartache for your survivors. Not everything was squared away when my grandfather died, and we lost a considerable amount of money in probate because of it. That money would have helped far better in our family than in the government coffers, and so we have all learned to be better prepared for our own eventual demise. Living wills, estate planning, ans asset preservation are all a part of elder law, and a trained and competent lawyer can make sure that you have all of your bases covered. |
