The classified industry has taken a turn for the internet. Classifieds have been overtaken with an online presence. There is an abundance of website on the internet where you can post classified ads with great results and lots of hits. But what happens when you have exhausted all of your options and you still need exposure. Welcome to the world of demographically targeted classifieds. Sites such as Craigslist and Kijiji only target a limited demographic locally. It is important to realize that there are literally hundreds of classified websites in different languages to choose from. Finding them is easy. Just do a Google search for the word �classifieds� in the language you are looking to target and you will find a barrage of websites with free listings. You can target all these sites.
So you do not speak the language that you are targeting? Don�t fret. Tools like Babel fish from Yahoo do all the translation for you. They are fairly inaccurate at finding the correct usage of a phrase so make sure to have someone proofread before submitting the listing.
Most classified listings on websites expire at a certain time limit, between 7 and 60 days depending on the popularity of the website. It is important not to over post a listing on a website, or it might get you banned! I like to post a listing a day on each website and change the title to a unique phrase every single time. Also, I like to keep the listing short and provide my contact information at the very beginning. If you have photos be sure to include the also. They tend to add appeal the ad. You wouldn�t buy a car just by reading a paragraph and not ever seeing the actual vehicle, would you? Add a photo, it adds wonders to the response rate. If you don�t have any handy you can purchase some for a dollar at stock photo websites. Just do a Google search for the term �stock photography� and they will pop up.
Finding the websites to post on is a bit trickier. Let�s say for example, you are targeting Vietnamese speaking people with your ads. You need to start in a Vietnamese language search engine such as Google dot vn. Now, for example, if you searching for real estate listing websites just do a search for �free real estate listings�. Use the appropriate language of course. A few websites will pop up. Don�t forget to bookmark them for future use.
Also, as a word of caution, I have noticed that some of these websites are a bit spammy. I would not recommend using your personal email to submit listings. Go to Gmail and create an account in ten seconds and use that email to post your listings. That way, you protect your email and you have a central place with all the confirmations and website contact info all in one place.
Submitting listings takes time. Be patient, be persistent, and don�t give up. There has been a few times where I wanted to bring business to myself, only to have the urge of giving up. But I just stuck through it. Success comes in when you least expect it to happen, just stick with it.
